E-commerce biggie Flipkart obtains 140 acre land to develop Logistics Park

According to reports, Indian e-commerce bigwig Flipkart has been allotted 140 acres of land by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HSIIDC) for setting up the largest fulfilment centre, spread across the area of 3 million square feet in, Manesar, Gurgaon. The allotment has been approved by HSIIDC at a cost of INR 432 crore.

In addition, the Walmart-owned e-commerce player intends to set up a logistics park on the land parcel over the next 3-5 years. The park, which has a potential of a total built up area of 5 million square feet, shall be developed in 2 -3 phases, with the first phase of the project commencing from 2022. The development of the park is expected to cost INR 3,500 crore in capital investment and shall create over 12,000 jobs in the state.

The e-commerce companies are witnessing a rise in demand owing to the coronavirus pandemic. With customers preferring to shop from the comfort of their homes and the onset of festive season, e-commerce players are investing in warehouses and Fulfilment centres. The surge in demand and shorter delivery time is also driving the demand of logistics parks closer to the big cities.
