Make in India for the world: PM Modi addresses the nation on Independence Day

This Independence Day celebration amid the pandemic was subdued, however, resonated the mood of the nation. The world is grappling with economic slowdown and India is also impacted due to the coronavirus pandemic. To put the Indian economy on track and pave way for recovery, Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address this year had a strong strategic underpinning compared to previous years.

The speech given by him laid out quite clearly the direction in which his government intended to proceed — both in the context of the Covid-19 challenge and beyond, as well as the Chinese aggression on India’s northern frontier.

The most important strategic clarity came on the government’s new mantra of self-reliance or Aatmanirbhar Bharat. PM made it clear that self-reliance did not mean shutting doors on the world but altering the terms of engagement to become part of global value chains.
