Manufacturing to play a pivotal role in creating jobs in India

According to news reports, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) chairman RC Bhargava stated, “That the key to growing the economy and creating jobs lies in the growth of the manufacturing sector,” at the company’s 39th annual general meeting.

In addition, he commented that India has been attempting to do this for the last 70 years without reaching the desired growth levels as it adopted Soviet policies that did not deliver results. To boost domestic manufacturing he called for a national consensus on the need to grow manufacturing and to create jobs.

Over a period of 5-6 years the government has introduced many policies enabling conditions much more conducive to competitive manufacturing. Furthermore, with the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, India is pushing ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives to foster growth in domestic manufacturing.
