Maruti Suzuki reports 32% increase in domestic sales during the month of September

Automobile sector was already reeling under the impact of economic slowdown, which was further accelerated due to the coronavirus pandemic. Presently, the automobile sector in India has entered a recovery phase with Maruti Suzuki, which accounts for every second car sold in India, reported a 32% growth in domestic sales during September as it ramped up production owing to the sustained demand recovery and prediction of high sales volume during the Diwali period.

According to reports, the company sold 152, 608 vehicles during the month as against 115,452 units sold a year ago. It also meant a 30% growth over August 2020 sales. To be sure, these are wholesale numbers representing the despatches from factories to vehicle showrooms. The retail figures, which show actual sales of vehicles to customers, could be much lower. Automakers in India publish only the wholesale figures, contrary to the global practices.

The highest growth was recorded at 47% in the compact cars segment which includes brands like WagonR, Swift, Celerio, Baleno, Dzire and Tour S. The company sold 84,213 units of these vehicles. Moreover, manufacturing sector in India is already on the path on recovery, with government of India pushing forward programs to boost local manufacturing.
