Automation to enhance productivity and reduce errors in manufacturing plants

Automation was already becoming popular however due to covid-19 the adaptation has accelerated. With the pandemic still existing, automation will play a critical role in continuity of operations as social distancing remains important.

Further, the main aim of industrial automation is to enhance manufacturing efficiency and cut down manpower. In the long run the workers freed-up from the mundane repeated tasks could be reskilled and redeployed to other functions and thus making better utilization of human resources.

Automation when connected to a plant wide network can facilitate IoT on the shop floor. A connected plant is essential to harness the true power of the cyber-physical systems created through sensorization & automation. Data generated through plant connectivity gives companies the ability to keep real-time track of productivity & quality and may offer mitigating actions to the line supervisors and plant executives. Data analytics can offer gateway to predicting various outcomes from quality of the part being produced to the next machine breakdown.

In automobile industry, Cobots have been used to enhance productivity, however, the future of automobile industry lies in digital transformation. Auto industry in India was already undergoing change with rising demand for EVs, customisation and self-driving cars. Now, with the deployment of automation and robotics, auto industry can step up their game in delivering these products faster than before.
