Smarties-First global confectionery brand to switch to paper packaging
As per reports, Nestle has announced that its popular Smarties brand has switched to recyclable paper packaging for its confectionery products globally. Around 90% of the Smarties range have switched to sustainable packaging and earlier only 10% was packed in eco-friendly packaging.
In addition, Smarties is the first global confectionery brand to switch to recyclable packaging. This will help in removing around 250 million plastic packs which was sold globally each year. The company had started introducing recyclable paper packaging for Smarties block last year in the UK.
Nestle plans to shift to recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025 and limit its use of virgin plastics by one third in the same period. The Smarties paper packaging is made of a coated paper, paper labels or carton board and is also sourced sustainably.
Furthermore, information about how to properly dispose of Smarties paper packaging is also included on its labels to raise consumer awareness. Global brands making a transition to recyclable packaging is going to generate more awareness and push other brands to switch to sustainable packaging solutions.
