Noida-based start-up launches 100% biodegradable paper bottles

Samiksha Ganeriwal is the brain behind Noida-based sustainable start-up, which has created 100% biodegradable paper bottles. These bottles can be used to packages toiletries, beverages, liquids and powders.

The company is named Kagzi Bottles as the founder was eager on naming the company on how the product was made in India. ‘Kagzi’ is derived from the Hindi word kaagaz meaning paper.

Sustainability has become important around packaging sectors all over the world. Big companies such as Coca-Cola and L’Oreal have also started working to manufacture paper bottles, however, these bottles have a thin inner layer of plastic to provide a moisture barrier and resistance to other environmental factors, thus making the bottles not entirely free of plastic.

This makes the Kagzi Bottles unique as the bottles are made using paper waste sourced from a company in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. This waste paper is then mixed with water and chemicals to break it down and get a mixture called pulp. This is then moulded into the desired shape of two halves of a bottle. Post this step, the halves are then spray painted with a solution that mimics the water-resistant properties of a banana leaf. Finally, these two halves are then glued together.
