Green gifts make way this festive season

With the onset of festive season, everyone has gifts on their mind. The coronavirus pandemic may have disrupted our normal lives but gifting during the festivals will remain popular. Rising awareness about pollution and environment is making consumers choose gift items that drive sustainability. More and more people are realising the importance of eco-friendly and sustainable gifting options.

According to reports, six Indian metros produce more than 36,000 tonnes of solid waste per day. Furthermore, as per experts festive season contributes significantly to this waste. Sustainable chocolates, jewellery made of clay, gardening tools, upcycled home décor items, plantable pens are becoming quite a trend among popular gifting items. In addition, coronavirus pandemic is driving growth of locally made products owing to the growing India-China border unrest and government’s push. Vocal for local and Made in India programs by the Indian government will foster growth of gift items manufactured locally, which are also environment-friendly.

With rising air pollution and inadequate waste management in big cities across India, it is pivotal that responsible choices are made towards gifting. As per a survey, more people are preferring to gift potted plants, which are natural air purifiers.Health and wellness is becoming the new mantra of good life for the conscious Indian consumer. Potted plants are the new ‘flowers’ and green is the new gold as consumers realise that their health and environment are interconnected.
